Lenny Larson

A master potter, accomplished ceramic artist, ceramic technician and designer of gas kilns for the ceramic industry.

I grew up in Laguna Beach California in the 1950’s and 60’s. I was exposed to fine art  most of my early life. My father was a first generation Swedish carpenter and fine craftsman. My mother was creative and designed Christmas murals and made flower crafts. This is where I acquired my strong work ethic and love for working with my hands.

After I graduated from Laguna Beach High School, I earned my AA Degree from Orange Coast College. I then went on to get my BFA and MFA from Otis Art Institute graduating in 1975. Major: Ceramics, Minor: Drawing.

I began working as a production potter in various commercial ceramic companies for 18 years. Eventually, I managed a large ceramic lamp manufacturing company in Los Angeles. I then became the head of equipment sales for Laguna Clay Co. I also ran their mold shop, export sales manager and designed a line of gas fired kilns.

In 1999 I left Laguna Clay Co. and became the plant manager for a large ceramic tile manufacture, Jeffrey Court Inc. I designed new efficient manufacturing methods as well as setting up a new production facility.

In 1995 I started my business, Ceramic Services. I designed and manufactured gas fired kilns and a line of Raku kilns. I also started a community pottery studio where we had workshops, had ceramic classes and did custom firing services. In 2016 I sold the business.

Today I have retired from the industrial side of business. I continue with my love for ceramics by teaching and managing the studio at The American Museum of Ceramic Art (AMOCA). I work in my studio, teach specialized workshops, consult for the ceramic industry and exhibit my work in various galleries. I sell my work at local art shows and street fairs.
